Here are some quick facts about the most charming city in Hays County:

  • The City of Kyle was founded in 1880 by nearby settlers from the communities of
    Blanco and Mountain City.
  • Fergus Kyle, for whom the town was named, and the family of David Moore
    donated 200 acres of land for a town site when the International and Great
    Northern Railroad built a line from Austin to San Antonio.
  • Kyle is the second largest city in Hays County.
  • Straddling IH-35, Kyle is eight miles north of San Marcos; 20 miles south of
    Austin; 60 miles north of San Antonio; 200 miles west of Houston; and 250
    miles south of Dallas.
  • Kyle is 25 minutes from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
  • The City of Kyle is a Home Rule City, with a City Manager form of Government.
    The City Council is comprised of a Mayor and six Council members. The Mayor
    and three Council members are chosen "at large". The other three Council
    members are elected from districts.
  • Kyle is a few minutes' drive from the San Marcos Outlet Mall with more than 230
    brand-name stores, Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Cabela's outdoor store.
  • Kyle has its own HEB Plus grocery store, newly opened in 2007; and its own
    CVS Pharmacy, opened in 2008.
  • Students attend Hays CISD, including Tobias Elementary, Wallace Middle and
    Lehman High schools. Ten colleges and universities are also within a 50-mile
    radius of the community.
  • Schlitterbahn Water Park, Sea World, Fiesta Texas and the Austin music scene
    are nearby.
  • Kyle is home to Plum Creek Golf Club. In nearby San Marcos, there is a full-
    service country club, Quail Creek Golf Club.
